Beginner Archery Courses

The courses are held at our Archery Field and are suitable for adults and children - the minimum age for children is 10 years and a parent or guardian must attend throughout the duration of the course.

All equipment that you will need for the course will be provided.

To make it as enjoyable as possible, you won’t be sat learning endless theory before getting to shoot!

Facilities for coaching the disabled are available but please contact the club prior to enrolling and you will be contacted by the coach to discuss individual needs.

Some families like to learn archery together, going on to join the club and shoot as a family.

You are asked to attend all sessions as the course is a structured syllabus, at the end of the course, you will be presented with a certificate of completion which certifies that you have been trained to shoot safely and competently on any ArcheryGB range.

Upon completion of the course, you may apply for membership of Crockenhill Archers and, if approved, it may also be possible to hire archery equipment from the club for a short period whilst you shoot to improve your technique; after which we will advise and guide you through the selection and purchase of your own equipment.

Duration:    A total of 12 hours in 4 x 3-hour weekly sessions.

Cost:        £60.00 per Student.

Insurance:    AGB Insurance is compulsory but is included in course fee.

Prior Knowledge:    None required.

Aims:        To gain sufficient skills and competences to safely shoot at a target with reasonable accuracy, whilst gaining enjoyment and confidence in the sport.

Objectives:    At the end of the course the student should be able to: -

  • Understand the safety rules of how, where, when or when not, to shoot.

  • Shoot at a target with reasonable accuracy, but safely.

  • Know how to string and de-string a bow.

  • How to safely collect & remove arrows from a target and to score arrows.

  • Knowledge of etiquette on and off the shooting line.

Students should dress for the weather conditions on the day (including showery rain) and wear snug fitting clothing and sensible shoes, no sandals or open toe shoes.  You should also bring a suitable drink with you to keep hydrated

Progression:    Having successfully completed and gained competence in archery, the beginner may have the opportunity to join the Archery club as a full member.  This will give the archer an opportunity to compete and gain various awards, (if this is what is desired, but is not compulsory) and to shoot at club sessions for enjoyment.
